About Montane Summer Spine
The Montane Summer Spine MRT Challenge South follows the Pennine Way across 108 miles of trail running from Edale in Derbyshire to Hardraw in North Yorkshire. Competitors have 60 hours to complete the distance, navigating moorland and upland terrain that includes the Kinder Plateau, Malham Cove and Pen-y-Ghent whilst passing through several National Parks. Total elevation gain stands at 5451 metres with an equal descent.
This is a continuous Mountain Rescue Team event restricted to serving MR members. The unsupported format means organised pacing and private support vehicles are not permitted, though runners may access public cafes and pubs along the route. Checkpoints including Hebden Hey offer hot meals, refreshments, sleeping facilities, toilets, showers and medical cover. The race runs under the same conditions as the Challenger South variant.
