About MTC Gelert
The MTC Gelert is a 47 mile trail ultra that runs from Barmouth in Gwynedd to Llanidloes on 6 July 2028, largely following National Cycle Route 8. Competitors start at the Sandbanks Hotel in Barmouth and finish at the Red Lion Hotel in Llanidloes. The event forms part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series and Day 3 of the six day MTC CYMRUN challenge, with the standalone race limited to 20 runners and a further 20 places available for CYMRUN entrants.
The event operates with preset cut off points based on a minimum pace of 4.0 miles per hour. Runners must be self-sufficient and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and first aid pack. Maps and GPX files are provided before the event, and tracking devices with SOS functions are supplied so progress can be monitored in real time.
