About MTC Kelpie
On 4 June 2028, the MTC Kelpie takes runners on a 38-mile trail race from Dunbeath to John O'Groats in the Scottish Highlands. This inaugural event forms the final day of the Mount to Coast SCOTIA nine-day end-to-end series, though it can also be entered as a standalone race. The route covers challenging terrain over the course of a single day.
Competitors must carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, compass or GPS device, whistle and first-aid kit, plus their own reusable cup. Checkpoints are positioned along the route, and runners need to maintain a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph to stay within cut-off times. The race is limited to 40 competitors: 20 dedicated places and 20 additional places reserved for SCOTIA series participants.
