About NAV4 Tour de Helvellyn
Nav4's Tour de Helvellyn is a winter ultra run covering roughly 38 miles on trails around the Lake District fell. Taking place on 19 December 2026, the unmarked circuit starts and finishes at Askham Community Centre near Lowther, following footpaths, bridleways and minor lanes with around 2000 metres of cumulative ascent and descent split across repeated climbs to nearly 600 metres.
The event is designed for experienced navigators only. Competitors receive only checkpoint grid references rather than a full route description, and support is deliberately minimal with just a handful of roadside checkpoints offering light refreshments. Individual support teams, pacing and crew are not permitted, and entry is strictly limited to around 200 starters. A mandatory pre-start kit check means participants must arrive with specified equipment including waterproof layers, thermal clothing, insulated jacket, headtorch, compass, map, whistle, survival bag and emergency provisions. Parking and accommodation are typically available nearby at Askham.
