About Newcastle Way Marathon
Two trail-running distances follow the way-marked Newcastle Way through County Down on 4 October 2026. The half marathon of 13.1 miles starts just outside Castlewellan Forest, with a bus option to the start location, whilst the full 26.2-mile marathon begins closer to Newcastle town centre and covers more extensive terrain. Both routes take in Tollymore and Castlewellan forests, pass through the National Trust Murlough Reserve and finish in Newcastle.
Runners navigate using existing trail markers and a supplied GPX file or detailed route instructions on a personal device. The event includes a medal, medical cover and full event insurance. Course elevation imagery, route photos and a fly-through video of the half marathon route are available online to help participants prepare.
