Self-sufficient runners with significant ultra experience will find a genuine challenge on the Norn Iron Ultra, a point-to-point trail event covering 37 miles across Northern Ireland's North Antrim coast on 30 May 2027. Starting at Larrybane Quarry in Ballintoy and finishing in Gortin, County Tyrone, the route follows the Ulster Way past the Causeway Coast, Giants Causeway, Portrush, Portstewart and Castlerock, with terrain spanning bogland, trail, forestry, road and beach.

Navigation relies on a supplied GPX file and personal GPS device, with runners wearing an organiser-provided tracker for live tracking throughout. Manned checkpoints appear at strategic intervals with water, snacks, and hot food and drinks at two indoor stations. Participants must carry mandatory kit including waterproof layers, emergency supplies, head torch and whistle, and demonstrate the ability to be self-sufficient for extended sections. Entry requires being over 18 with prior ultra experience over 50 miles. A 34-hour time limit with intermediate cutoffs applies, and three recce training runs are offered to registered participants before the event.
