About Oban Hill Race
The Oban Hill Race takes place on 27 August 2026 as part of the Argyllshire Gathering, one of Scotland's most prestigious Highland Games. This 2.5 mile trail race features approximately 500 feet of ascent, with competitors starting from Mossfield Stadium before the climb and returning to the arena for a final circuit completed in front of spectators.
Founded in 1871, the Argyllshire Gathering combines athletics, heavy events, piping and Highland dancing. The Hill Race is contested for the Kilninver Cup, while the wider athletics programme includes track races ranging from 100m to 3200m, plus jumps and children's events throughout the day. The event takes place in Argyll and Bute.
