About Outrun The Night
Dalkeith Country Park near Edinburgh hosts this 12-hour overnight trail running challenge on Halloween night. Beginning at 7pm, participants have until 7am to complete as many laps as they choose of a 5K loop, combining woodland trails and park roads. The mixed terrain includes uneven ground, exposed roots and road sections, requiring head torches and appropriate footwear.
Solo runners and relay teams of two or four are both welcome, with flexibility built into the format. Runners can tackle the course continuously, take breaks at base camp, or return to running later in the night provided their final lap starts before 7am. This structure allows participants to pursue distances from a marathon upwards, or simply set their own personal challenge across the night.
