At 7 km, this trail race offers runners the quirky challenge of racing a heritage steam train. Peak Rail 7 Runner vs Steam takes place on Monday 29 March 2027, starting from Peak Rail Rowsley South Station in the Derbyshire Dales. The route follows a shared trail to Matlock Riverside Station and back, with marshals positioned along the course and at several road crossings. A short section of riverside path near Matlock has uneven ground where previous flood damage has affected the surface, so care is needed in that area.
Organised by Matlock Athletic Club, the event includes free parking on site and nearby, with registration beneath blue gazebos (participants should bring their own safety pins). The steam train will be on the platform at the start. Team prizes are awarded for the first three male and female finishers, and race photos are provided free after the event. Earphones are not permitted so runners can hear marshals and other trail users.
