About Pen Y Fan Challenge
Two measured trail routes tackle the terrain around Pen Y Fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons. The 5 mile and 13 mile options both start from Storey Arms on 25 July 2027, taking runners across steep climbs, rocky trail sections and the exposed conditions typical of mountain terrain. Marshals mark the course and offer on-route support throughout.
The mountain environment demands preparation. Runners on the 13 mile route need to carry a mobile phone, at least 2 litres of hydration, a foil blanket or bivi bag, snacks, a basic first aid kit, a whistle, and both a waterproof jacket and trousers plus hat or gloves. The 5 mile route requires a mobile phone, at least 500 ml hydration, a foil blanket or bivi bag, snacks, a basic first aid kit, a whistle and a windproof jacket.
