Pen y Fan takes place on Sunday 11 July 2027 as part of the Brecon Fans Race Weekend. Based at Libanus near Brecon in Powys, this mountain running event covers 5.8 km with 588 metres of ascent over trail terrain. The race carries a WFRA classification of AS, indicating that navigational experience and mountain skills are essential.
Runners start from a point a 15-minute walk up the valley from the Nant Cwm Llwch car park, where registration takes place in a tent. Entrants must be 16 or over and must enter in advance; there is no day-of-the-day entry. Mandatory kit includes full windproof body cover, a map, compass and whistle. The organiser provides printable maps, route descriptions and a GPX file, along with details of a recce walk from the car park.
