About Portland Coastal Marathon

A 10 km trail run along the South West Coast Path on the Isle of Portland, this February event demands self-navigation skills and serious preparation for exposed coastal terrain. Runners download a GPX file in advance to navigate without event-specific route markers, making a charged mobile phone and map-reading ability essential. The challenging location in winter means mandatory kit requirements are strictly enforced: participants must carry at least 500ml of fluid, a windproof jacket, emergency nutrition, head covering, foil blanket or bin liner, whistle, and first aid kit.

The race starts and finishes at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy. Professional medical cover, refreshment checkpoints and chip timing support the event, which caps entries at 500 runners. Bone-conduction headphones are permitted, though traditional earbuds are not. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and Portland Coastal buff, with trophies awarded to the top three male and female runners.
