Those looking for a muddier take on the 5k can head to The Meadows in Edinburgh on 20 June 2027 for Pretty Muddy, a single-lap obstacle course organised by Cancer Research UK. The route winds through the park on grass terrain, incorporating multiple muddy obstacles over its 5km distance; the ground may be uneven and waterlogged in places.
Participants must be at least 13 years old (a separate Pretty Muddy Kids event caters for under-12s). Wave starts are staggered every 15 minutes to manage flow through the course. The start and finish point is on the grass area east of Middle Meadow Walk. Those without cars can access the park on foot or by bike, with bike racks available at Middle Meadow Walk and Edinburgh Waverley train station nearby. Refreshments and toilets are available on the day. The course is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs, and dogs are not permitted.
