About Ranger Pen-Y-Ghent Ultra
This 50 km mountain trail race follows a challenging out-and-back course over Pen-y-Ghent in the Yorkshire Dales, gaining 1280 m across terrain that demands careful navigation. Based at Hawes, the route runs to Horton-in-Ribblesdale via Cam Road, with fixed finger posts marking the way but no additional waymarking. The event takes place on 19 September 2026 and is held under a Trail Running Association permit and England Athletics rules.
Runners must be at least 20 years old and come equipped for mountain conditions: a compulsory kit list includes waterproof layers, appropriate footwear, map and compass, head torch with backup, emergency bivvy bag and first-aid kit. Navigation notes and a GPX file are provided ahead of the race. Support comes from on-course checkpoints offering water, snacks and hot soup, with Race HQ at the finish providing indoor space and hot refreshments. Entries are limited.
