About Rasus y Bannau
Taking place over the first weekend of April, Rasus y Bannau offers three trail running distances across the Brecon Beacons National Park. Runners can tackle either 40 miles or 100 km, both starting and finishing in Brecon with circular routes that follow ridgelines, established mountain trails and footpaths through Bannau Brycheiniog.
The 40 mile course climbs onto the north ridge of Cribyn before heading east towards Carn Pica, then passes through Taf Fechan Forest and over summits including Craig Gwaun Taf, Craig Du and Pen y Fan. The 100 km route takes a more expansive path, adding descents to Talybont Reservoir, sections around the Blaen y Glyn waterfall complex, and terrain into the Black Mountain before rejoining the 40 mile course. Both races use route markings and published GPS traces for navigation, with checkpoints providing water and refreshments along the way. Runners must carry a compulsory kit list and be self-sufficient in mountain conditions.
