About Rat Race Coast to Coast
The Rat Race Coast to Coast is a 100 mile multisport challenge that suits those looking to combine running with cycling and kayaking across the Scottish Highlands. Taking place on 12 September 2026, the event crosses dramatic Highland terrain, passing Cawdor Castle, Loch Ness, Glen Coe and Glen Nevis en route to the coast.
Runners cover 21 miles split across two sections: an opening 7 mile run followed by a demanding 14 mile mountain section later in the event. These running stages are woven between 78 miles of cycling and a final mile of kayaking. Part of the route follows the West Highland Way, bringing trails, climbs and rugged terrain into a substantial endurance challenge.
Participants can complete the full distance in one day or spread it across two, with the two day option stopping at Invergarry before the final push west. The course is fully waymarked with marshal and staff support throughout.
