About River Ayr Way Challenge
A 40-mile trail ultra-marathon following the River Ayr Way, this September challenge starts at Glenbuck Loch in East Ayrshire and traces a long-distance walking route through Southern Scotland's river valley. The full waymarked path runs 44 miles to the sea at Ayr and forms part of Scotland's Great Trails, passing through landscapes linked to Robert Burns, William Wallace and John Loudoun Macadam.
The route takes in diverse habitats where otters, badgers, herons and hen harriers can be spotted. Parking is available at Glenbuck Heritage Park at the start. Entrants receive detailed route maps and section information. A section at Wellflat Bank is currently closed due to landslides, with a temporary diversion in place via Daldorch.
