About Roman Rampage
Colchester's Friday Woods plays host to the Roman Rampage, a trail running event across woodland terrain that combines challenging conditions with multiple entry formats. Taking place on 20 March 2027, participants can choose from three distances—3, 6 or 9 miles—navigating uneven ground through hilly, muddy and wet sections on private military land.
The event welcomes runners aged 16 and over in three categories: standard running, canicross (with a dog), and TAB (tactical assault course style). TAB entrants must bring their own 35 lb rucksack and wear full ankle support boots; these bergens are weighed at the start and finish. Water stations operate along the route and at the finish, with temporary facilities provided at the start area. Race numbers and timing chips are issued on the day and assigned via shoelace attachment. Runners and canicross competitors start together, with TAB entrants beginning five minutes later.
