About Rose of the Shires Ultra
Brixworth Country Park hosts two trail-based events on 10 April 2027: the Rose of the Shires Ultra at 54 miles and the Rosebud Marathon at 26 miles. Both follow circular waymarked routes through Northamptonshire countryside, incorporating local villages, country parks, canal towpaths and sections of established long distance paths. Navigation support includes GPS tracking and a voice cue app.
The Ultra covers approximately 36 miles of cross country trails, 16 miles of roads and nearly 2 miles of canal towpath, with around 2,315 feet of elevation gain and loss. Six checkpoints spaced 6 to 8 miles apart provide water, snacks and fruit cake, with progressive cut offs and an overall limit of 13.5 hours. Participants must be aged 18 or over. The marathon option comprises roughly 14 miles of trails, 10 miles of roads and 2 miles of canal towpath, with approximately 1,241 feet of climb and 1,308 feet of descent. Two checkpoints support the marathon route, and transport to the start is available for a fee. The Ultra can also be run as relay teams split across seven legs. Parking is at Brixworth Country Park, where bag storage is available at the finish.
