About SilverBackTrails Lamplighter 40
The Lamplighter 40 is an overnight trail running event that takes runners across the North York Moors through the night, from sunset to sunrise. Setting out from Goathland Village Hall on 19–20 June, participants tackle a 40-mile circular route visiting trig points, cairns, crosses and other waypoints across flagged sections, good tracks, open moorland and forestry. The planned duration is approximately 12 hours.
Runners may enter as soloists or pairs, with numbers limited to 40. Each participant receives a tracker along with a GPX file and master map for navigation. The route includes multiple checkpoints offering refreshments, snacks and drinks, with one indoor checkpoint serving pizza and hot beverages. After finishing, hot food including vegetarian and gluten-free options is available, alongside water, snacks and facilities.
Entrants must carry specified kit including a full North York Moors map, compass, whistle, head-torch with spare, emergency bivvy bag, spare warm clothing, waterproofs, mobile phone and charger, water and emergency food. This is a self-sufficient adventure across moorland terrain that rewards preparation and navigation skills in equal measure.
