About Skipton
Taking place on 28 December 2026, The Drop is a navigation challenge staged in Skipton, North Yorkshire. Participants are transported to an undisclosed location by bus and must find their own way back to the event centre without maps, GPS, compass or external help. Three distances are available: 6 miles, 10 miles, and 15 miles, measured as the crow flies (the actual route will be significantly longer).
At registration, electronic devices, watches and navigational aids are handed over. Participants receive a race number and a sealed emergency bag to carry throughout. Deployment happens while wearing blackout blindfolds; the challenge begins once blindfolds are removed. The core rules prohibit GPS unless sealed in the emergency bag, unauthorised maps, and any travel method other than on foot. The emergency bag seal must remain intact.
The event is based at The Leaf & Bean Vegetarian Cafe in Skipton town centre, which is about a five-minute walk from both the railway and bus stations. Parking is available in the town centre.
