About Slawit Snowstorm Shuffle
The Huddersfield Narrow Canal between Slaithwaite and Tunnel End provides the setting for this undulating trail race across Kirklees. The route takes in a historic stretch of waterway that passes beneath a 3.5-mile tunnel carved under the Pennines, where narrowboats once navigated and kayakers still paddle today. The canal's lock system creates relentless elevation changes that shape the character of the race: climbs on the outbound leg give way to descents on the return, making for a genuinely challenging and rewarding experience.
Four distances accommodate different abilities: 5 km, 10 km, half marathon and marathon (run as two laps of the half marathon course), all starting from the same canal towpath. The race operates under a generous 6.5-hour cut-off, keeping the day relaxed rather than pressured. Feed stations are positioned every three miles, marshals support the course throughout, and finishers receive a medal alongside drinks and food.
