About South Coast Challenge
The South Coast Challenge offers three trail running options across the South Downs National Park, starting in Eastbourne and following the South Downs Way towards Arundel. Runners can choose between 25 km, 50 km or the full 100 km route, which passes Beachy Head, the Seven Sisters, Brighton, Devil's Dyke and historic Arundel. The event takes place over 4-5 September 2027 and caters to around 2,000 participants.
Support is extensive throughout the course, with covered rest stops roughly every 12.5 km and major stops at regular intervals. Competitors receive meals every 25 km plus hot and cold drinks at all stops. Rest facilities include seating, toilets, medical areas and baggage pick up. Medical staff, podiatrists and massage teams are stationed at rest stops and on route. GPS tracking via the event app and timing scans at stops monitor progress.
Those tackling the full 100 km distance can use the on-site Base Camp, which provides camping, hot showers and rest facilities. Shuttle buses connect the event to nearby train stations. Various race formats are available to suit different preferences, and finishers receive a medal, t-shirt and hot meal.
