About South Downs
Held in late May, the South Downs 50k is a 50 kilometre trail race running point-to-point from the University of Brighton in Falmer to Helen Garden in Eastbourne. The route traces the South Downs Way through the South Downs National Park, finishing at the cliffs of Beachy Head, and combines mostly runnable trail with farm tracks and forest paths. Runners will encounter over 3,500 feet of cumulative ascent and descent across terrain that is 99% trail and 1% road.
The race is recognised as a UTMB Index Race and awards 2 ITRA points. An 11-hour cutoff accommodates both runners and walkers. The event provides four aid stations throughout the course, along with first aid and medical cover, live GPS tracking and chip timing. A free shuttle bus runs from the finish to local hotels and Eastbourne train station.
