About South Wales Three Peaks Trial
A fixture since 1963, the South Wales Three Peaks Trial remains the UK's oldest challenge walk. Held each March, this year's edition takes place on Saturday 20 March 2027 around Abergavenny in Monmouthshire, rooted in the tradition of testing endurance and navigation skills across the trails.
Participants can choose from four trail routes ranging from 10 to 20 miles, each with varying amounts of ascent. Longtown Mountain Rescue Team provides support with marshals stationed at mountain-top checkpoints. The 2027 event continues a partnership with Gwent Wildlife Trust to highlight the local flora and fauna of Bannau Brycheiniog National Park and its surroundings, with proceeds supporting the rescue team, wildlife trust and National Trust. Entry to the longest Platinum Route is capped at 100 places and entries close before the event.
