About South West Coast 50 Ultra Challenge
A 50 km trail challenge across Exmoor and the Minehead section of the South West Coast Path forms the centrepiece of this July event based at Dunster, Somerset. The full distance takes in approximately 1600 metres of climb over mixed terrain, though shorter 25 km and 10 km options are also available, making it accessible to different abilities and ambitions.
The event operates from a large basecamp near Dunster Castle with camping, parking and hospitality facilities. The route is fully signed with GPS tracking, and participants progress through covered rest stops positioned roughly every 12.5 km, with larger marquee stops at longer intervals. Each stop offers seating, catering, medical and welfare support, and changing areas. Medical cover includes doctors, paramedics, first aiders and massage teams, alongside a mobile emergency service. Finishers receive a medal, T-shirt, refreshment and a meal.
