About St Peters Way Ultra
The St Peters Way Ultra traces an ancient pilgrimage route across Essex countryside, following a path trodden since the 7th century. This 42-mile trail running event starts at Chipping Ongar and heads eastward toward the coast, finishing at the 1,400-year-old St Peter-on-the-Wall chapel at Bradwell on Sea on 28 February 2027.
The route combines footpaths, bridleways, fields and rural tracks through local villages, with the final miles along a raised sea wall. Underfoot conditions vary considerably, from short grass to thick mud, across undulating terrain. Runners should be prepared for exposed sections and changeable weather. The course is marked but participants need basic navigation skills using provided GPX files or printed maps. Four checkpoints along the way offer water, soft drinks and snacks.
A mandatory kit list includes a headtorch, waterproof clothing and the ability to carry one litre of fluid. All runners are fitted with a tracker for live monitoring. Bag transfer from start to finish is provided.
