About Sundowner Trail Marathon
The Sundowner Trail Marathon takes runners across 27 miles of Essex countryside around Purleigh on 5 June 2027. The route is structured as two loops returning to the start/finish midway through, passing coastal saltmarsh, canal towpaths, vineyards and forests with approximately 2,500 ft of ascent.
Three well-stocked checkpoints are positioned along the course, with vegan options available. The event operates on a cupless basis, so runners need to carry their own drinking containers. Drop bags can be left at the event headquarters around the 15-mile mark. Participants must carry a mobile phone (provided on entry), a head torch with at least 250 lumens and a backup light source. No crewing or pacing is permitted. The field is limited to 50 runners.
