About The District Back Yard Ultra
Nestled between the Pennine Hills to the east and views toward Blencathra and the Lake District fells to the west, this Backyard Ultra takes place on undulating, highly runnable trail near Penrith. The format follows the standard Backyard Ultra rules: competitors tackle one 4.167-mile loop (6.706 km) per hour, on the hour, with each successive loop optional. Those who fail to complete a loop before the hour ends drop out; the last runner standing wins.
The event runs on 2 October 2026 and is organised by Heart & Soul Racing Limited with a country-themed atmosphere centred around a yard area for runners, crews and spectators. Camping is provided as part of entry, with additional options available for Friday night stays and camper van parking. Each competitor gets a 3m x 3m pitch for their base. The race is self-supported, though organisers provide an aid station with water and basic supplies; runners should bring their own power, lighting and shelter for the duration.
