About The District Backyard Ultra
Held on the rolling fells of Westmorland and Furness, The District Backyard Ultra takes Lazarus Lake's format to the Lake District on 3 October 2026. Competitors tackle a 4.167-mile loop every hour, on the hour. Finish within that window and you earn the right to start again; miss the next departure and your race is done. The last runner standing wins.
The course is undulating and designed to flow efficiently, offering views towards Blencathra and the Pennines without the relentless elevation gains typical of fell racing. The format suits varied ambitions: first-time ultra runners discovering their limits, those chasing a new distance personal best, or competitors vying for outright victory. Walking, jogging or running at your own pace is the approach—the structure simply asks that you complete each loop within the hour.
This is the Lake District's only official Backyard Ultra, hosted by Heart and Soul Racing with crew support and a grassroots atmosphere throughout the day.
