About The Drop - Aberystwyth
The Drop is a unique navigational challenge taking place on Terrace Road in Aberystwyth on 18 July 2027. Participants are transported to an undisclosed drop-off point and must find their way back to the event centre without maps, GPS, compasses or external assistance. Three distances are offered: 6 miles, 10 miles and 15 miles, measured as the crow flies—meaning the actual route taken may be considerably longer depending on the terrain and obstacles encountered.
On registration, participants hand over electronic devices and receive a race number and emergency bag. Blindfolds or blackout safety goggles are worn during transport, with alternatives available on request. Throughout the event, sealed emergency bags must remain unopened; breaking the seal results in disqualification. Organisers may provide maps for navigation, but no other route guidance is permitted.
Live GPS tracking is available as an optional, paid feature for those wanting to share their progress or for safety purposes. Trackers are generally accurate to about five metres, though signal strength can vary. The event centre is within walking distance of both the railway station and bus station, with town centre parking available.
