The Drop - Cardiff takes participants on a navigation challenge across the Welsh capital on 24 July 2027. Starting from Blackfriars Friary, runners are taken by bus to an undisclosed location before making their own way back using navigation skills alone. Three distances are available: 6 miles, 10 miles and 15 miles, measured as the crow flies—meaning the actual route will likely be longer.
The event strips back to basics: participants hand over electronic devices and maps at registration, don a blackout blindfold or approved safety goggles for the journey out, and then navigate independently back to the start. An emergency bag must remain sealed throughout, and shortcuts are not permitted. The trail terrain and urban setting of Cardiff create the conditions for a genuine navigation test rather than a simple point-to-point race.
