About The Drop York

Running through York takes on a different character in The Drop York, where navigation replaces marked routes. Participants are bussed to an undisclosed starting point before being released to find their own way back to the city centre using only their own judgement and route choice. The terrain varies across urban streets, riverside paths, parkland and suburban roads as runners chart their course homeward.

Three distances are available: 6 miles, 10 miles and 15 miles, with distances measured as the crow flies rather than following a fixed path. This means the actual distance covered depends entirely on the route each runner selects. The event prioritises decision-making and navigation skills over speed, offering a genuinely unpredictable running experience where no two participants will necessarily follow the same way back.
