The Governor Backyard Ultra takes place at Great Farthingloe Farm in Farthingloe Valley near Dover, Kent, on 9 January 2027. This winter event suits runners drawn to the distinctive backyard ultra format, where competitors tackle successive 4.167-mile trail loops and must complete each one and return to the starting corral before the bell sounds to continue racing. The basecamp is housed in an indoor barn, providing shelter from winter conditions while the course itself runs along the top of the valley with expansive views across the Channel towards France.
The event operates on a Last Person Standing format, meaning there is only one finisher. Runners can enter the full backyard ultra with no predetermined finish time, or take on the 7 Hour Challenge option, which follows the same course but concludes after seven hours. The current course record stands at 33 yards.
