About The Hallam Chase
On Whitsun Tuesday each year, runners gather in Sheffield for The Hallam Chase, a 6 km trail race across the Rivelin Valley. Dating back to 1862, this is the world's oldest continuously run fell race, and the 2027 edition takes place on 1 June.
The handicapped format means staggered starts for competitors aged 18 and over. The course climbs and descends across moorland and valley terrain, starting around 250 metres elevation gain, with notable landmarks including Den Bank, a crossing of the River Rivelin, and Stannington Church. The route follows trails and includes road sections across Rivelin Valley Road.
