About The Highland Ultra
The Highland Ultra follows a testing 125 km trail route across three days through the Knoydart Peninsula in the West Highlands of Scotland. The course winds through mountain terrain including rocky ascents, boggy sections and broad glens, with coastal stretches offering views across sea lochs. Runners tackle the route in three separate stages, with Longbeach in Inverie serving as base camp throughout the event, which runs for four days overall.
Competitors can enter as solo runners or as part of a team of two, three or four. The event is structured around tent accommodation at race camps, with mandatory self-sufficiency between checkpoints. Checkpoints are positioned at roughly 10 km intervals and staffed with medics, offering drinking water, shelter and facilities for meal preparation. Luggage is carried between camps by the organisers, and transfer logistics to and from the remote peninsula—by boat or on foot—are arranged as part of the event.
