About The Hill Ultra Marathon
Taking place over a 48-hour winter weekend in early December, The Hill Ultra Marathon challenges runners to complete 160 miles on the trails around The Wrekin in Shropshire, gaining 47,000 feet of ascent through repeated loops of the 1,335-foot summit. The event runs from Friday 4 December to Sunday 6 December 2026 and is open only to experienced ultra runners who have completed at least one 100-mile race.
Participants must be entirely self-sufficient, carrying all necessities including a sleeping bag and lighting, with a single indoor checkpoint offering water, hot water for self-service drinks and snacks, and basic facilities. No outside assistance, pacers or supporters are permitted at the checkpoint, and runners are limited to a maximum 30-minute stop. A separate Everest-style challenge is also available, requiring 34 summit repetitions within 36 hours covering just over 100 miles.
