About The Icing on the Cake
The Icing on the Cake offers runners a choice of distances across Shropshire's Long Mynd and surrounding hills. Participants can tackle a 10 km route, half marathon or full marathon, with marathoners completing two loops to experience the terrain twice. The trail event starts and finishes at Carding Mill Valley near the National Trust tea rooms in Church Stretton on 6 February 2027.
The course weaves through tracks, trails, heathland and some tarmac, taking in views across the National Trust landscape. Runners carry their own map, water and basic first aid kit, with support from marshals and aid stations along the way. A cake competition runs alongside the race, inviting participants to bring home-bakes and compete for prizes. Church Stretton train station sits within a mile of the race headquarters.
