About The Kymin
The Kymin is a winter fell race forming part of the South Wales Winter Hill Series, held in January on terrain around Monmouth. Starting from Monmouth School Sports Club, the 6 km course takes in roughly 350 metres of ascent across mainly lowland ground, with heights rarely exceeding 300 metres.
The route mixes tracks, fell paths and open roads, with underfoot conditions including stones and roots that may be obscured by leaf cover. One field section can become particularly slippery in wet weather. Navigation is straightforward and the course is clearly marked, with multiple escape routes to roads available throughout should runners need to retire. The event welcomes competitors aged over 14.
