About The Last Duel Trail Race
Trail runners seeking a historic route will find plenty to appreciate in this 5.7-mile race through Cardenden Woods, which marks the 200th anniversary of Scotland's last pistol duel, fought on this very date in 1826. Fife Athletic Club and Kirkcaldy Wizards have routed the event to pass the duel site, creating a race with genuine local significance.
The course begins on gravel before climbing into woodland via farm track, where runners navigate mixed trail surfaces, tree-lined sections, a small timber bridge and varied terrain throughout. Conditions underfoot can be muddy, rocky or rooted, making trail shoes a sensible choice. The route also passes under a dual carriageway before finishing on nearby playing fields. Registration takes place at the Corrie Centre, with refreshments and prize giving held there afterwards. Runners must be at least 16 years old and eligible under Scottish Athletics rules.
