About The Maverick Dark Castle Trail
This night trail run takes runners across varied terrain around Corfe Castle, from muddy woodland sections to open heath and hard-packed tracks. The three routes—5 km, 11 km and 15 km—all start from the castle area and loop through the village of Corfe and across Corfe Common. Runners on the longer distances venture onto Knowle Hill and Stone Hill Down, with narrow single-track sections offering views across the Purbeck landscape toward Poole Harbour. The castle itself remains visible from the course throughout the event on 21 November 2026.
The mixed trail surfaces are typical of the Dorset heathland in November: soft and muddy in places alongside firmer sections. The Long route includes one outpost at around 7 km with snacks and drinks; the 5 km and 11 km routes have no outpost support. A headtorch is essential. The venue offers hot food and drink, fire pits, bag drop and parking, though the car park is a 15–20 minute walk from the start. Under-18s must be accompanied by a participating adult.
