About The MTC Severn Plod Ultra
This 48-mile ultra follows a trail route from Mid Wales Art Centre near Maesmawr through to Shrewsbury, taking place on 17 February 2028. The course winds inland initially through Holly Bush and Rhyd-y-felin before meeting the River Severn at Dolerw Park, then traces the river's path alongside the Montgomery Canal Walk. The route passes Pwll Penarth Nature Reserve and Welshpool, incorporates sections of Offa's Dyke Path and the Breidden Hills, and continues via Montford Bridge and Bicton to finish in Shrewsbury.
Four staffed checkpoints are positioned along the route with checkpoint food available; runners should register dietary requirements in advance for vegan or gluten-free options, or bring their own prebagged supplies for other needs. Navigation is self-supported using GPX files and maps, as much of the course is unsigned and sections can be overgrown. Competitors must maintain a minimum average pace of 4.0 miles per hour throughout.
Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, map, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone and basic first aid kit. A reusable cup is required as the event is cup-free. Entrants must be aged 20 or over.
