About The Pike
An 8 hour loop challenge on mixed terrain in Rivington, The Pike invites runners to tackle repeated circuits of a 5 km route that climbs Rivington Pike. Each lap gains approximately 204 metres of elevation across trails and road sections. The event takes place on 11 September 2027 at Berne Avenue, Bolton.
Participants can enter as individuals or as part of a team of up to four runners, with team members rotating through the course. A single start and finish line records lap times, and all finishers receive a medal along with their total distance covered and final time. The event operates to a strict 8 hour cut-off, after which incomplete laps are not counted. A separate team leaderboard tracks group performances.
The start and finish area doubles as the main aid station and hub for spectators, with water, fruit, snacks, energy bars and electrolytes available throughout the day. A bag drop runs all day, and portable toilets are on site. Runners should bring their own bottles. Since the route remains open to other users, participants may encounter walkers and dogs along the way. Children aged 12 to 15 require a parent or guardian to arrange their entry and be present at the event; under 12s cannot take part.
