About The Purbeck Marathon
Trail runners seeking dramatic coastal scenery and challenging terrain will find the Purbeck Marathon suited to their tastes. Taking place across the Purbeck Hills and Jurassic Coast near Swanage, the 16 km trail route traverses an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, passing landmarks including Corfe Castle's ruins and the abandoned village of Tyneham alongside stretches of Dorset coastline.
Licensed by the Trail Running Association and adhering to UK Athletics rules, the event runs on 20 September 2026. Participants must be aged 18 or over and are required to carry mandatory kit including a running vest or belt, water capacity of at least 500 ml, whistle, foil blanket, fully charged mobile phone, and a GPS device with the route pre-loaded for navigation. Trail running shoes and technical clothing are recommended for the uneven and steep terrain. A 7-hour-11-minute time limit applies, with bag drop and bib collection available in Swanage.
