About The Ridgeway Challenge
The Ridgeway National Trail stretches 86 miles across southern England from Ivinghoe Beacon in Hertfordshire to Avebury Stones in Wiltshire, and The Ridgeway Challenge invites runners to tackle the full distance on 29 May 2027. This trail running race covers 139 km with 1850 m of elevation gain, with a 28 hour time allowance. The event is limited to 150 runners (minimum age 20) and is licensed by the Trail Running Association under UKA rules.
Eight checkpoints break up the route, providing water, food and hot meals at select stops. The trail benefits from permanent signage and is additionally marked by race signs where needed. Runners are required to carry mandatory kit including a charged mobile phone, map, water capacity, light sources (minimum 75 lumens primary plus backup), emergency shelter, head covering, first aid supplies, a reusable cup and waterproof clothing. GPS tracking is provided throughout. The Ridgeway Challenge is a UTMB World Series index event.
