About The Tunnel Marathon - Portsmouth
A 26.2-mile marathon that takes place entirely underground, The Tunnel Marathon sees runners navigate a lapped course through tunnels beneath the Ucap Bunker, a former Royal Navy headquarters located around two miles north of Portsmouth and situated 100 feet below the surface. Some tunnel sections stand just 6 feet tall, requiring participants to stoop for approximately 20 meters per lap as they work their way through this subterranean venue.
The event is restricted to 100 participants aged 18 and over. All runners must wear a cycle helmet and headtorch throughout, with this safety equipment mandatory given the underground environment. The marathon follows ARC running club rules and takes place on 21 November 2026. The bunker can be accessed via postcode PO17 6AR.
