About The Two Breweries Hill Race
The Two Breweries Hill Race is an 18-mile hill running event held on the fourth Saturday in September in the Scottish Borders. Taking place on 26 September 2026, the race runs between Traquair House and Broughton Ales brewery, starting from St Ronan's House in Innerleithen. The predominantly trail-based course covers around 1500 metres of ascent across hill tracks, open heather and short sections of country road.
This long-established race, which has run annually since 1983, requires entrants to be at least 18 years old and enforces a mandatory kit check. Runners must carry full emergency kit including windproof and waterproof clothing, a map, compass, whistle and food. Eight marshalled checkpoints mark the route, with water available at Glenrath Farm and Stobo Home Farm, which also serve as retiral points. Hill rescue cover is provided by the local mountain rescue team. Finishers receive a bottle of local ale and prize giving takes place at Broughton Village Hall with hot soup and cake available.
