About Tryfan Downhill Dash
A 1 km fell race that demands serious mountain skills, Tryfan Downhill Dash takes place on the slopes near Bethesda in Gwynedd. Despite its modest distance, the course involves 680 metres of descent over rocky, steep and exposed terrain with sections that are mostly off-track. The route is only partially marked, and navigation and mountain experience at expert level are essential—this is not a beginner's fell race.
The event starts from the car park on the A5 at the foot of Tryfan on 21 August 2026. Competitors must be over 18 and should be prepared for difficult underfoot conditions and severe exposure, with few escape routes available. Poor weather and sudden conditions are common in this area, so entrants are advised to contact the organisers on race day to confirm the event is proceeding.
