About Two Crosses Challenge Event
The Two Crosses Challenge Event takes runners across the moorland and trails around Bury, visiting two significant local landmarks: the Roman Cross at Affetside and the Pilgrim's Cross on Holcombe Moor. Held on 14 March 2027 at Greenmount Old School Community Centre, the event offers two trail routes of 18 and 26 miles, organised by East Lancashire LDWA.
The longer route includes multiple checkpoints with cut-off times; participants must reach the 7.5-mile checkpoint to continue. Route details and GPX files are available in advance, with a small diversion noted between checkpoints 3 and 4. Runners should bring a mug and the equipment specified on the entry form. Dogs are welcome if kept on a lead and covered by public liability insurance, provided they're supervised due to livestock and ground nesting birds on the route.
