For runners seeking a substantial trail challenge across the Pennines, the Two Roses Ultra offers a choice tailored to experience and ambition. Held on 19 June 2027 in Calderdale, West Yorkshire, the event features two 50 km loops or a full 100 km route, each exploring the moorlands and valleys that define the border between Lancashire and Yorkshire.
The Red Rose loop passes through Hebden Bridge and Heptonstall, follows sections of the Calderdale Way and Pennine Way, and takes in Widdop Reservoir, Walsden and Stoodley Pike. The White Rose route travels across Walshaw Moor toward Haworth and Keighley, including road sections and trail passages through Cottingley Woods and past Hallas Bridge's waterfalls, with checkpoints at Doe Park and Ogden Water reservoirs. The 100 km route treats the race HQ at Wadsworth Community Centre in Old Town as a mid-way point.
Both 50 km loops run without formal time limits. The 100 km has a single cut off at Leadbeater Dam. Runners tackling the second loop must carry a headtorch. Checkpoints are well-stocked with vegan options, drop-bag access is available, and support includes GPS tracking and timing.
